“Anytime Fitness is a community based stress outlet. We’re all about helping each other. That’s what sets us apart: a friendly, family, neighborhood atmosphere.” Mike McVay
A little about me: I am a 13 year Combat Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. A little while after returning home from my deployment to Iraq in 2004-05, I decided to open my own business with hopes of being able to make people feel happier about themselves. I bought into the Anytime Fitness Franchise, and opened up a location in Dodgeville, WI. I opened my doors January 8th, 2010 using the last little bit I had saved from my deployment, with some help from my business partner and a little bit of financing.
As owner/operator, for the first 2 1/2 years, I was not able to put a dime into my pocket, as our goal was to pay our business off as soon as possible. With that, I went through some hard times as we depended solely on my wife’s income. It caught up to us, as I was only making money as a PT. We lost a house to foreclosure among other things, since I was not able to get any other help from outside sources.
But things have changed for the better. We were able to pay off the business in 3 1/2 years, and I have also been able to pay myself enough to get by. I have gotten us to a place of being able to expand, which we needed 2-3 years ago. The American Dream Grant will help us get our facility fully up to the Anytime Fitness floor plan model. This has been our vision for the last 5 years.
We have 292 active members, as well as 14 pay per visit members. My goal is to hit 7- 800 memberships in this community, which is over the targeted 10% for a given population. I forecast 100 new memberships in the first 30 days of our Grand Re-Opening. With the expansion, build out, and additional equipment costs, my operating costs will be less per month that in our first 3 1/2 years. So this is a very good re-start for us moving forward.Full Bio
