On the morning of December 2nd of that year, while conducting a patrol, a sniper's bullet struck him two inches above his left eye, knocking him to the ground, but not unconscious. After passing his radio and command of his squad-he was evacuated and later awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with a "V" for valor in combat.

David currently lives in Arcadia, MI where he plans on establishing a hop yard, to supply the growing list of Michigan breweries. David enjoys hunting, fishing, and restoring classic cars.
